Read one of the obituaries found on page B4. Read one of the longer ones. What elements make up an obituary? What kind of information is available. What thing would you expect to read in an obituary that you rarely find in on (see if you can deduce this one on your own)? Did you know that many new reporters first assignments are to write obituaries? What would you think about having to write one of these?

Obituaries are difficult to write. They provide information on people who have recently past in the area, giving a short biography of their life, what their interests were, and also about their personality. It gives you different information on how old they were when they past, the date they passed, and so forth. I would expect maybe something like a quote from them or someone from their family in the obituary that usually does not appear. Most articles have quotes and such but these do not.

What I did not know was how new reporters are assigned to write these. These sort of subjects really touch me so to have to write these I would put a lot of effort into them- love and respect is a major part that I would put into them and really get to know about the person who I am assigned to write about.
